Lord Leycester's Legacy

Robert Dudley, Earl of LeycesterIn 1571, Robert Dudley, Lord Leicester, was given permission to build a hospital in Warwick for poor and injured soldiers. Because of his connections with Gloucestershire, he had family ancestry and had also owned property in the county, he stipulated that places should be reserved for men from Arlingham and Wotton.

The display at the Heritage Centre will feature "Lord Leycester's Hospital" which is still thriving today, and some details of Robert Dudley's association with Wotton.

It will also highlight the lives of some of the men who left Wotton to go and live in Warwick. The last two "Brothers" from Wotton entered the Hospital in 1936 and 1940. Their names are on the WWI Roll of Honour in Wotton Town Hall.

The display will be at WOTTON HERITAGE CENTRE. It will run from early May until the end of July. Admission to the Museum is FREE
