Walks, woods and wildlife around Wotton. Wotton-under-Edge is blessed with many pleasant walks both in and around the town. Many varieties of living things - flowers, trees, animals - can be seen on the waysides along these walks and in the woodland areas. This display features some of these paths and the natural history to be found along side them. The Cotswold Way, a National footpath, runs right through the town. Its route is well sign posted. Marchesi Walk was named after the founder of Round Table. The local group was connected with the setting up of this path which winds along the side of a stream below a housing estate. The changing seasons each bring colour and interest to the local environ¬ment. Snowdrops in winter, bluebells and catkins in spring, hedgerows of green with flowers in a rainbow of colours in summer, followed by conkers and toadstools in golden brown autumn - not to mention the animals, birds and insects than run and fly around everywhere.
The displays runs from February to April and is in conjunction with the British Association's Science and Engineering week in March. The Tourist Information Point in the Heritage Centre provides information about the area and the souvenir shop has many leaflets describing interesting local walks. Admission to the Heritage Centre is free but donations, however small, are always most welcome. Wotton Heritage Centre, The Chipping, Wotton under-Edge, Glos.
