Strong by Stream and Staple

The latest display at the Wotton-under-Edge Heritage Centre takes a look at Wotton's Civic history. There are references to nearby settlements in Roman times and a Royal Charter mentioning "Wudeton" in the Saxon era. Facsimile copies of entries in the Domesday Book list Roger de Berkeley and the hamlet of "Vutune". The formation of the Borough in 1253 is described and this was followed centuries later by the Parish Council in 1894, the Town Council in 1974 and the Grant of Arms for Wotton in 1979. Pictures show the Town Regalia.

Special Event

20th Anniversary of the Twinning of Beaumont-le-Roger and Wotton-under-Edge

On May 19th. a joint event with the Beaumont Roger Society will take place; the Heritage Centre will be open during the evening for the "Nuits des Musees" event.

The display will run from May to July.

Admission to the Heritage Centre is free but donations, however small, are always most welcome.
