Resources

The Heritage Centre has a well-resourced Research Room in which records of all types can be examined in a pleasant and quiet environment. In addition, there are Microfiche and Computer facilities available to assist in searches for particular information.

A small fee is levied for use of these facilities.

Computerised Records

The Heritage Centre is building up a collection of computer software and data resources related to local and family history aspects for Wotton-under-Edge. Although original documentation is an essential feature of primary information sourcing, it is recognised that computer stored records have an important role in facilitating  searches.

At present the following data sources are available on CD:

  • 1881 National Census
  • 1851 Gloucestershire Census
  • National Burial Index
  • Vital Records Index
  • Mormon Immigration Index
  • Local Parish Registers from 1700 to 1799

Accessing the record

If coming from a distance, it is advisable to contact us by phone or email to check beforehand that the Research Room facilities are all available.

N.B. THe Heritage Centre is staffed entirely by volunteers. Some of the helpers at the Reception Desk are more experienced researchers than others but all the resources in the Research Room are fully indexed to aid your research.

Also note that the Centre will be closed on a number of days over the Christmas period. You can check our opening times here.
