Sophie Gaudier-Brzeska Centenary

Sophie Gaudier=Brzeska Centenary Celebration Reception on Friday 28th March 2025 at the Wotton Civic Centre

Guests will be invited to preview the events taking place throughout the weekend.

Four years ago we discovered a letter in the Wotton Heritage Centre referring to Polish writer named Sophie who once lived in Wotton.  This information opened up an amazing story.

At the end of March in 2025, we are taking over the Civic Centre for a weekend to celebrate this former resident of Wotton-under-Edge. Sophie Gaudier Brzeska lived in Wotton from 1916 to 1922. She passed away in 1925 as a resident of Coney Hill Asylum in Gloucester.

The event in March will attract Photographers, Artists and writers to Wotton for the weekend of exhibitions/talks/films/recitals. We are working with a group of people to make this happen:

A photographer from Oxford, https://aniaready.com/

Dr Gilles  from Essex University https://www.essex.ac.uk/people/GILLI96604/Patricia-Gillies (Translating and evaluating Sophies words)

A Gallery in Nailsworth https://hundredheroines.org/about/  (Charity)
