‘The Vale of Berkeley Railway: Trials, Tribulations as well as Successes’
Starting up a heritage railway in the 21st century is not as easy as it was in the 20th. The VoiBR began in the old diesel shed at Sharpness docks with almost no infrastructure, just a bunch of enthusiasts from around the Stroud area. It has now out-grown its shed and as is expanding onto some Network Rail land with an eye on accessing the Sharpness branch line so that it can run heritage trains up to Berkeley.
Howard Parker has been assisting heritage railways for as long as he can remember. He began as a 7 year old collecting tickets on the Ravenglass and Eskdale and has tried his hand at navvying, guard, fireman and now he is chair of the trust running the VoBR
