Wotton and Water

26/04/2024

A talk by Prof. David Cowell - President of the Wotton-under-Edge Historical Society. An expanded version of a talk given to the Wotton Climate Action Group last year.

This presentation originated from a request to the Society for a brief talk on ‘Water and Wotton’ from Wotton Climate Action Network. I have considerably expanded the content which relies extensively on the 13,000 items found in the Society archive. It considers two aspects of the importance of water to Wotton – namely in the history of the Woollen Cloth industry and for the Health of the local population. I shall hopefully encourage you to look at things, in and around the town, you had not previously noticed.

The lecture will be on Friday 26th April at 7.30pm at the Wotton-under-Edge Civic Centre. Members of the Historical Society have free entry, visitors are asked for a donation of £5.00 each. Refreshments are available after the talk.

Please note, the original lecture for this date on Putin's Russia has been postponed until September.
