Kate Peake BSc PGCE: Dressing the Georgians

A talk by Angela Rendell & Kate Peake

In this talk we will explore the extravagant outfits of the landed gentry in Georgian Britain, how rivalry and the industrial revolution influenced fashion for both men and women of means. The talk will discuss Royalty, their influence on fashion, and fabrics of the time including luxurious silks made in Spitalfields, London. Kate will model the ‘underpinnings’ and show how these exaggerated silhouettes typical of Georgian society were achieved. She will also model a silk court Mantua, all made by Angela.
